Mixing It Up!
Real life mother/daughter comedy team, Marilyn Campbell (a Caucasian Mother) and Maria Merrin (her mixed race daughter), relate hilarious and touching personal stories about hair and the difficulties and joys of mixing the races, feminism and single motherhood in our time.
The script is a spoken-word, language based, stand-up comedy venue, intended for teenage audiences and above.
First written and performed at the city of Chicago’s Storefront Theater for Estrogen Fest 2005, Mixing It Up(click here to view video on YouTube) has been described by the Chicago Tribune as “a spoken duet of humorous recrimination.” Encouraged by critical praise and audience response, Campbell and Merrin created a second piece for Estrogen Fest 2007. In 2009 Mixing It Up was produced in a 1 hour version at the 16h Street Theater in Berwyn, IL directed by Ann Filmer. Then Maria moved to Utila Honduras to become a Master Dive Instructor and now she teaches and lives there.
